Antique Timepiece Drop Spindle No.254: Unique and certainly One-of-a-Kind Design - made with Circa 1850 to 1930 Watch and Clock Dial and Parts
SPECIFICATIONS: 3.1 ounce (88 grams) - 2.62" (62mm) diameter Whorl - Larger .125 (3.2mm) diameter Shaft x 10.75" (27.1cm) long in Raw/Uncoated Steel with Forged Hook
This spindle is on the heavier side and has and abundance of rim weight and a perfectly balanced spin - perfect for spinning a variety of long staple fibers and art yarn, as well as plying singles.
Made from 38 Individual Pieces with three centerpiece components, including a
-Circa 1850 hand etched sterling silver English Fusee style pocket watch dial with 14kt gold Roman numerals - embellished with a large escapement wheel and a sun/moon dial, and a
- Circa 1930 rare and unusually ornate winding type car clock bezel (Phinney Walker Movement), and on the bottom side, a
- Circa 1920 Hebdomas Swiss men's wrist watch 8-day winding barrel with painted design and lettering - coated in epoxy resin to protect the paint from rubbing/chipping off
The dial was mounted to an acrylic disc, which was then milled to fit into the car clock bezel and a thick layer of blue tinted epoxy resin was poured onto the back side, and the front side was filled with two thick layers of epoxy resin to the top of the rim for a long life and no snag finish. The dial and bezel whorl is mounted to a raw/uncoated high carbon (spring) steel shaft with a heat forged hook and a large vintage brass clock gear, the Hebdomas winding barrel, an acrylic disc, 20 Preciosa Czech crystal rhinestones, and silver and gold plated findings finish the top and bottom sides of the shaft. All components are assembled with an industrial 2-part epoxy adhesive.
