Made from 8 individual pieces, the two centerpieces of this Tahkli (Style) Support Spindle is the silver plated alloy Art Nouveau Style Sun and Moon Pendants that have the bails removed and adapted for use on a spindle. The whorl consists of a 1/8" thick acrylic disc that has a vibrant color foil adhered to one side - then a thick layer of epoxy resin is applied to the top side surface with one pendant permanently affixed to it. The bottom side of the whorl has another pendant affixed to the acrylic disc and the whorl is mounted onto one of my signature powder-coat painted steel shafts with its heat forged hook. The whorl is finished off - top and bottom sides with two silver plated findings and the acrylic disc edges are ground smooth and polished. All parts are mounted with industrial 2-part epoxy resin adhesive.
This is a light to medium weight Tahkli style spindle and it spins fast and long – making it great for not only cotton, but other short and longer/fine staple fibers as well.
